Subaru Outback smoking ?

Can't tell you for sure without looking but I had an issue once where I didn't notice a piece of the oil filter gasket had torn off the filter i removed. When I put the new gasket on, I guess this caused a problem where when I gave it gas and the oil pressure would rise, a little bit of oil would spray out from where the piece of gasket was crossed with the new one. It would just spray a little bit of oil on the header and that would smoke real bad and smell too. It only did it once in a while though when I would floor it. Might be something to check. I just like to check the easy and cheap things first before I have things checked that cost money.
